AJ330-FL vacuum membrane adhesive

AJBASPAR Waterborne Polyurethane Adhesive for bonding Natural Wood Veneer on PVC Foam Sheets

AJ330-FL vacuum membrane adhesive is a high-quality solution designed for bonding natural wood veneer to PVC foam sheets in vacuum membrane machines. This combination is ideal for interior decoration, which offers the appealing look of natural wood while utilizing the water-resistant properties of foam sheets. It is perfect for areas exposed to high moisture and water. One of the notable features of this adhesive is its low activation temperature, which prevents deformation of the PVC foam sheets due to heat. Additionally, AJ330-FL adhesive provides excellent resistance to industrial solvents, which allows the use of a wide range of market-available colors for natural veneer finishing. This adhesive can be sprayed using a spray gun, ensuring efficient use and creating a strong bond between the wood and PVC foam sheet. Using PVC foam sheets with natural wood veneer in the construction of bathroom cabinets, doors, and in humid regions of the south and north of the country is highly desirable and attractive.

Product Advantages

Why Choose AJ330-FL?

  • High-Quality Bonding: Ensures a strong and durable bond between natural wood veneer and PVC foam sheets.
  • Eco-Friendly: Waterborne formulation reduces harmful emissions, promoting a safer and healthier environment.
  • Low Activation Temperature: Prevents deformation of foam sheets during the bonding process.
  • Solvent Resistance: High resistance to industrial solvents, which provides conditions for the use of different color finishers.
  • Efficient Application: The ability to be sprayed, provides optimal condition for uniform spraying and less consumption.
  • Versatile Use: Ideal for constructing bathroom cabinets, doors, and other applications in humid regions.

Application Method

The application method for the vacuum membrane adhesive is as follows:

  1. Shake the adhesive container well before use.
  2. AJ330-FL is a single-component waterborne polyurethane adhesive and should not be mixed with water or other materials.
  3. Ensure the vacuum membrane machine is in good technical condition. It is recommended to use a silicone membrane machine for bonding natural wood veneer to PVC foam sheets.
  4. Spray the adhesive onto the foam sheet surface from a distance of 10 to 15 cm using a spray gun.
  5. The spray gun nozzle should be 1.8 to 2 mm with a pressure of 3 to 4 bars.
  6. The adhesive consumption is approximately 50 to 70 gr/m²
  7. The activation temperature of the adhesive is between 55 to 60°C.
  8. Do not apply excessive pressure with the silicone membrane to avoid deforming the PVC foam sheet.
  9. Remove the veneered foam sheet from the machine 2 to 4 minutes after turning off the heating system and releasing the membrane pressure.
  10. Allow the bonded piece to acclimate to room temperature for about 2 to 3 hours before trimming the excess natural wood veneer.

Tips for Optimal Results

  • Storage: Store the adhesive in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. The recommended storage temperature is between 10-30°C. Ensure the container lid is tightly closed.
  • Cleaning: Tools and equipment used for applying the adhesive can be easily cleaned with water after use.

By following these tips, you can achieve optimal performance and durability with AJ300 Water-Based Acrylic Adhesive for MDF parts!

During spraying, a large amount of adhesive disperses into the air as mist. Does this mean the adhesive quality is poor?

No, the issue is not related to adhesive quality. During spraying, the air pressure should be adjusted between 3 to 4 bar, depending on the viscosity level. Spraying should be done gently from a distance of 20 cm onto the surface for optimal results.

Does viscosity affect the quality of the adhesive?

Viscosity is not directly related to the quality of the adhesive used. The only factors that truly impact adhesive quality are the type and percentage of solid content. Viscosity merely determines the appropriate spray gun nozzle type and the required air pressure settings. As long as the air pressure and spraying distance are properly adjusted, viscosity will not affect adhesive performance or consumption.

What is the solid content of an adhesive?

Every adhesive consists of a solvent and a primary bonding component. The adhesive strength depends on the amount and type of this primary component, which is dispersed in the solvent as solid particles.

The solid content refers to the proportion of the primary bonding component that remains after the solvent has evaporated, and it is expressed as a percentage. Most standard adhesives on the market have a solid content of around 50%, meaning that in one kilogram of adhesive, approximately 500 grams are the active bonding material, and the remaining 500 grams are water or solvent.

Naturally, the higher the solid content, the greater the amount of bonding agent present, which ultimately increases the adhesive’s bonding strength.

It is important to note that solid content has no correlation with viscosity (i.e., how thick or thin the adhesive is). Many operators mistakenly consider viscosity a measure of adhesive quality, which is misleading. As mentioned earlier, viscosity is only relevant for adjusting the air pressure of the spray gun during application and does not affect the bonding performance of the adhesive.

Are polyurethane adhesives better than acrylate adhesives?

Polyurethane and acrylate adhesives differ in their chemical bonding mechanisms and adhesive performance. Polyurethane adhesives, due to their unique polymer structure, are heat-activated and provide an ideal level of adhesion. They offer significantly higher quality in terms of spray ability, heat resistance, and stability against water and chemicals under various environmental conditions compared to acrylates.

Therefore, polyurethane adhesives are the preferred choice for vacuum membrane pressing applications in industrial settings.

It is also important to note that polyurethane and acrylate adhesives are visually indistinguishable, and specialized laboratory testing is required to accurately differentiate between them.
